In early May 2020 a new date was annouced, little we know that will not be the end of changes...
After the unfavourable outcome of the first attempt, you showed us overwhelming support so it was inevitable: the second attempt was born.
The location stayed the same: Bruntingthorpe Airfield
The date was chosen: 28 June 2020
Then a pandemic crossed all our plans for a great day...
For the event to be enjoyed and to be successful, we need social distancing and large group gathering restrictions to be relaxed and this has not happened in time for 28 June. When we looked beyond June to our planned backup date in September 2020, we predict and understand that local administrations in Scotland, Northern Ireland, The Republic of Ireland, Wales, The Channel Islands, Europe and England are all choosing to adopt different approaches to their lock down and exit strategies further complicating the relaxation of restrictions.
All of the above regions have seen patrons commit to attending, so as a team we feel strongly that as we started the journey together, we needed to agree an alternative date that will allow all of us to enjoy the day and break the record together. After all we are one Volvo family and family means no one gets left behind.
There is a long way to go before our respective countries are clear of this crisis, and it is vital we all continue to act with caution and to avoid further outbreaks of the virus.
With heavy hearts, we know that news of postponing the VOLVO600 event for this year may not be welcome news, however, we look forward to a new date in 2021 knowing it is absolutely the right thing to do.
The New Date!
We have been in contact with both Guinness World Records and Bruntingthorpe Proving Grounds to secure a new date that we can all look forward to and finally reassemble for our second attempt at the record.
The new date for VOLVO600 is Sunday, 27 June 2021 at the Bruntingthorpe Proving Grounds. We hope that the 1,000 plus team members who have all bought an event pass, the Bruntie Buddie Volunteers and various traders will keep safe and hold onto their Event Passes which will still be valid for the new date in 2021.
However, if you simply wish to be refunded, we will of course understand and will offer a refund to those who return their unsnapped Event Pass back to us.
In the meantime, thank you again for your determination and support. The contribution that every one of you make to our meetings, our Facebook, Instagram and webpages makes us proud, in particular the exceptional efforts so many of you have made in helping to raise money for the British Heart Foundation which will continue to be our chosen charity of the event.
So for now keep your Volvo parked up... but not parked up forever.
Be safe, stay kind and stay well as we cannot break the record without you
Kind regards, The TorqueVolvo and VOLVO600 Event Team
